Needless to say. If you've shot someone recently, you may not want to dress in a white tux and rent a limo. That is. If your high-school is still accredited

Police: Earl Hawkins, 17, Attempts To Flee At Prom Lineup

A suspect in an armed robbery in Brighton Heights that led to the death of a teenager was arrested before a Pittsburgh high school prom Friday night.

Earl Hawkins, 17, was arrested while trying to elude police in a white tuxedo after his name was announced during Schenley High School's prom lineup in Highland Park Friday evening, police said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Hawkins in connection with the death of 16-year-old James Owens, who was shot in the lower back during an armed robbery on March 1.

Police said Owens, Hawkins and Jamie Glozzer, 20, shot Brandon Sheetz, 25, in the leg during an armed street robbery outside a home in the 3700 block of Millerton Avenue.

Police said Owens was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and that he was accidentally shot by one of his accomplices.

Owens died from his injuries on March 14.

On Thursday, Glozzer, of Brighton Heights, was arrested by homicide detectives and charged with criminal homicide, robbery, criminal conspiracy and aggravated assault.

Hawkins, who was released from jail on previous charges of robbery, criminal attemptted homicide and criminal conspiracy, was informed by a detective that another warrant including a homicide charge was obtained but he chose not to turn himself in.

Police said Hawkins attempted to flee a plainclothes detective when approached at the prom, but detectives positioned throughout the crowd caught him and made the arrest.

Hawkins was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
